A network of canals divides up the land of Saint-Rémy, irrigating the farmland and shaping the landscape. Running from the River Durance (a tributary of the Rhone) to Saint-Rémy, the Canal des Alpines was dug in 1860, bringing water and prosperity to a land which would develop a tradition of market gardening and seed cultivation.
