The Vallon des Peiroou (cavities formed by running water on the bed of a mountain stream) led to the Mas de Gros Provence-style farm. Van Gogh painted it in the autumn of 1889. The current dam was built on the course of the Gaudre de Gavon in 1891, on the site of an ancient dam and lake supplying the town of Glanum 2000 years ago.
